Cruising the Galapagos (Ecuador) on NEMO II
Fantastic tour of the Galapagos with luxury catamaran, visit the most beautiful and unspoilt islands. A dream trip!

The islands
Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of 50 volcanic islands (14 are the main) located in the Pacific Ocean at 1000 kilometers from the west coast of South America, spread north and south of the equator, which spans the northern part of 'largest island, Isabela. Politically the archipelago belongs accepted. The islands oldest dating back about 4 million years, while the youngest are still in formation. The Galapagos Islands are considered one of the most active volcanoes on the planet. The relative isolation due to the distance from the continent and the wide variety of climates and habitats due to the currents of the area led to the evolution of many species of animals and plants under observation by Charles Darwin drew inspiration for the formulation of the theory of natural selection. Galápagos Islands were declared a national park in 1959, under protection by placing 97.5% of the total area of the archipelago. The remainder was paid to the two existing urban settlements at the time, which counted a population of less than 2,000 inhabitants. The population of the islands, which surveyed in 1972 was 3488 inhabitants, has suffered a sharp increase reaching 15,000 units in the'80s. In 1986 the surrounding ocean was declared marine reserve. The UNESCO has classified the islands as "World Heritage" in 1978, including in 2001 after the area's marine reserve. The Charles Darwin Foundation, dedicated to the preservation of the islands, was founded in Belgium in 1959.

The Fauna
Made about a thousand kilometers from the coast of Ecuador, these islands are one of the monuments of nature: their fauna has survived for buccaneers and whaler who did massacre and is now strictly protected. Visit this enchanted corner of the world is almost relive the emotions and feelings that in 1835 he had to prove Charles Darwin. On the ground, in the sky, under the surface of the sea, a life exuberant shows his extraordinary power to adapt to different environments. The Galapagos Islands are famous mainly for animal life here. This is the land of the giant reptiles, birds, plants and unusual wild scenarios, a marvel of nature which has brought a great interest in science. Unlike other islands where man has caused the destruction of much of the local biodiversity, the Galapagos are home yet almost all the species present before his arrival (about 95%).
